Services
This page serves a collection of links to all services (in the widest sense) related to metadata at DESY. For questions, please try finding your question in the FAQ section. Our contact info is located on the about page.
Public Data catalogue
Public data is currently provided in a Scicat-based catalogue at public-data.desy.de. This portal is supposed to be home to publicly available datasets in an Open and FAIR manner provided by members of the scientfic communities. Anonymous access is possible, no login is required to browse and download the data. Datasets can be uploaded by anonyone, given that they provide a metadata schema and a person from the community to act as curator for the datasets uploaded. Details for uploading data are given in the section about Data upload below.
Data upload
Datasets can be uploaded into the public data catalogue by using sisyphos.desy.de after providing a metadata schema in our registry, which can then be chosen as the base for generating the ingest form on sisyphos. File upload is possible there as well once you filled the metadata form. You are required to log in before providing your dataset so we have a clear connection between the dataset and its owner/author.
Schema registry
Metadata schemata are needed to make the datasets searchable for experimental parameters and to ensure that datasets from the same community are all stored and accessible in the same way. We provide a gitlab repository where the schema is stored, packaged and distributed to the services we need it in. As of now, we express the schemata as YAML files in the LinkML framework. We provide building blocks that cover the basic structure and examples on how to use them in the form of existing schemata in the registry. LinkML provides a variety of tools to convert, validate and use the schema descriptions in an easy way. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are interested or need support with your own schema.
DOI landing page
DOIs can be minted for collections of datasets after logging into public-data.desy.de. After successful creation, the DOIs are listed on public-doi.desy.de. Their detail view shows a description of the datasets and links to the related entries in the catalogue.
